In February 1820, a farmer named Yorgos Kentrotas unearthed the Venus de Milo in an ancient niche on his land near Tripiti. The statue — now in the Louvre — left Milos the same year, but a small monument marks the exact spot where one of history's greatest sculptures lay buried for centuries.
