What August is like
August is the busiest and joint-hottest month, with the warmest sea of the year. The meltemi blows on roughly half the days, sometimes strongly. On those days the north beaches get rough, while Paleochori, Firiplaka, Tsigrado and the rest of the south coast stay sheltered. Book accommodation, cars and boat trips well ahead.
Swimming and beaches
The sea averages 26°C in August. Warm: easy, long swims. With the north wind blowing on about 14 days, check the forecast each morning: on windy days head for the south coast, and save the north for calm ones.
